WOJCIK'S FUNERAL HOME - GEORGE BARNETT FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

GEORGE WILLIAM BARNET

On Monday, October 27, 2014 George Barnet passed away at the age of 79 years.
George will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Avis; daughter Michelle (Brian); son Ron (Kent); brother Jim (Laurette); Uncle Russ (Nancy); in-laws and extended family; and his many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Gladys Barnet (nee Smith); sister Mary Jean Robertson; brother-in-law Alex James; brother-in law Gary Erickson; niece Colleen James; and nephew Scott McCracken.
Born June 12, 1935 in Winnipeg, George grew up in St. James, he had numerous boyhood adventures with school chums, many of who remained his good friends all through his adult life. After school, George started work at Air Canada where he met his future wife of 53 years, Avis. He began his working career as a mail clerk, working his way to the Statistics Bureau, Disbursements and then the Payroll computer programming department until his retirement in 1992. George and Avis made good use of their travel passes, vacationing in Jamaica, England, Germany, France, Barbados and Florida.
George always enjoyed sports: playing lacrosse, swimming and track as a youth; curling, golf and an office baseball league later on; and taking up roller blading and cross-country skiing after retirement. He continued to golf in retirement and was often in the backyard on summer days practicing his swing. He enjoyed the bridge club with friends, the annual organized and dis-organized picnics at Clandeboye, family reunions and golf trips, annual trips to Mexico, San Antonio and Victoria with good friends Rome and Jan Lipp, daily coffee with his buddies Norm Roberts, Jim Reid and Harvey Hill, work fishing trips, and the many parties and get-togethers.
On Friday, October 31, 2014 George’s Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff at CancerCare Manitoba for their care over the last few years, as well as the doctors and staff at Grace Hospital Emergency and ICU for their care and compassion.
If desired, donations in memory of George may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
