RICHARD WOJCIK'S WINNIPEG FUNERAL DIRECTOR - RONALD SUMMERS FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

RONALD JAMES SUMMERS
1936 – 2014

Peacefully, surrounded with the love of his family, Ronald James Summers passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014.
Left to cherish Ron’s memory are his wife of 59 years, Isabel Summers; children Debbie Cumbers (Alan), Yvonne, Gordon (Sandra) and James (Ron); grandchildren Elisha (Andy), Christopher, Jenna, Zachary, Aaron; and great-grand daughter Annabelle, who knew him as Papa. He is also survived by his brother Lowell (Bonnie), in-laws Muriel Maffenbeier (Pat), Gary Durward (Diane), Ron Durward (Pat); numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother Bryan (Ruth); sister Colleen; and infant daughter, Lorrie.
Ron was born to Wilbur (Pete) and Eva Summers in Stettler, Alberta and grew up tall.  He worked on oil rigs before his skills landed him in Pierson, Manitoba, where he met Isabel.  The pair opened and operated a cafe and grocery store while they raised their family.  Eventually, Ron and Isabel joined the North West Company and managed stores across the prairies and northern Canada, from sunshine towns in Saskatchewan to chilly winters in Iqaluit, Nunavut.  After 25 years, he retired to Winnipeg to be near his family.
Ron was a kind man of many talents, whether it was driving a busload of kids to school, singing solos at local events, filling in for the minister on Sundays or auctioneering at community sales like he had been doing it his entire life.  He greatly enjoyed woodworking and his grandchildren were the beneficiaries, with toys they will treasure forever.  He loved sports, especially curling (where if he couldn’t participate, he watched religiously) or cheering on the Winnipeg Goldeyes.  Ron enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his grand dog Molly.  He loved music, especially country and hymns, and he passed his singing talent down to future generations.
A private memorial will be held on Wednesday, October 15, and he will be laid to rest in Pierson on Thursday, October 16, 2014.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to a charity of your choice.
