THADDEUS
EDWARD WITOSKI
It is with heavy hearts that we
announce the peaceful passing of Thaddeus Edward Witoski on Tuesday, September
09, 2014, at the age of 82 years at the St. Boniface Hospital with his family
by his side. Ted, as he was known to his family and
friends, was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dear friend to
many.
Ted
will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Joan Witoski; four
children, Terry (Jani) Witoski, Laurie (David) Kaminski, Kathie (Gerard)
Grocholski, and Chris (Val) Witoski; grandchildren Richard, Michael (Lesley) and
Christina (Darren), Bryan and Allie (Ryan), Alexis and Jocelyne, Nicholas and
Megan; six great-grandchildren; sister,
Frances Staska; sisters-in-law, Pat Dawson, Carol Witoski, and Violet Dunn; as
well as by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents,
Frank and Katherine; sister Bernice Komadowski; brothers Stanley Witoski and
Joseph Dawson; and his brothers-in-law Milton Dunn, Frank Staska, and John
Komadowski.
On
July 21, 1932, Ted was born in Tyndall, Manitoba on the family farm. He
attended Normal School in Winnipeg where he aspired to become a teacher. It is
there that Ted met Joan Dunn. In 1953, they were married and together they
raised four children in Winnipeg. Life was a never dull or boring. In his early years of teaching, he attended
evening classes and summer school to complete his education degree. At the same time, Ted played baseball with
the St. James Teachers team, scoring many a home run. He also curled in many
bonspiels with the St. James Teachers league.
Teaching provided him the opportunity to travel with his family many
summers exploring Canada and the United States. Ted was a successful educator
and principal for 35 years with the St. James Assiniboia School Division in
such schools as Hedges, Ness, Sansome, and John Taylor. He was proud that he
was able to influence and shape the lives of so many young people, Ted retired
in 1987. The last several years saw Ted completing a family history of both his
father’s and his mother’s families. The research into his father’s history led
Ted to discover numerous relatives located throughout Europe. He was able to
travel to Europe in 2002 to meet and reminisce with these new found relations
and he has continued to maintain a close relationship with his cousin, Renate,
in Germany. Ted’s greatest passion was fishing, spending many happy hours on
the lake fishing with his Nutimik Fishing team always on the alert for where
the best pickerel fishing spots were in any given season. Oh, how we all
enjoyed the pickerel!
Mass
of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 10:30
a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Avenue,
Winnipeg, Manitoba, with Rev. Fr. José Eduardo Medeiros, presiding.
