William Meaden

On a quiet Sunday morning with his loving
wife Judy by his side, Robert “Bob” Meaden took his final breaths. He leaves behind his three wonderful children
and their spouses, Marlene & George, James & Julina, David & Jenny,
his 5 adoring grandchildren, Gavin, Finn, Kendal, Katie and Cam and his beloved
“grand-dog” Ripley. His sisters Becky & Gloria and brothers Dennis &
Brian and their loved ones share in the family’s sorrow.
Bob and Judy had many adventures over their
47 years together, moving from Winnipeg to Red Deer to Saskatoon and back
again. He certainly never liked to stay still for long, renovating every house
he ever bought and a few he didn’t. He was a generous man who would give you
the shirt off his back or even the kitchen table out of his own house. Bob had
an extraordinary work ethic and a quiet generosity of spirit that made him a
trusted friend and colleague to those who knew and loved him. Bob believed in
living his life by the example he set, teaching his children the value of
kindness and respect through his words and actions. His humanitarian efforts
included work with the Rotary Club, where he welcomed his German “daughter”
Britta to the family and Habitat for Humanity where he tested his physical
limits in a long distance bike trip to raise awareness for the cause. Although
he spent his final years in Winnipeg, Saskatoon always had a special place in
his heart. It was there he made lasting memories and life-long friendships with
the gang from Wildwood. Linda & Dennis, Jim & Rona, Pete & Brenda,
Gladys & Ken, and Linda & Gord filled his life with joy and happiness.
After he retired, he enjoyed many years as a Winter Texan at the Pine to Palm
Resort Park where he and Judy laughed and shuffled the long winter months away
with their many friends. When asked what his greatest accomplishment in life
was, he would always say his children and later his grandchildren. Grandpa Bob
to the grandkids in the North and “Bumpa” to the ones in the South, loved to
travel between Winnipeg, Wisconsin, Atlanta and Texas, each year, spending
quality family time together barbequing and playing cards. His family was truly
his pride and joy so when his three children gathered together to take him out
on the town this past February it was one of his happiest moments. Although
nothing can prepare anyone to say goodbye, our hearts are at peace now knowing
nothing was left unsaid.
The family would like to extend their deepest
gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Health Sciences and Grace Hospitals
whose continuous care made his final days more comfortable. The many kind words
of family and friends continue to support the family during this difficult
time. Future celebrations of his life will occur on both sides of the border.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation
or a charity of your choice.
